Matt represented RISER as an organizer and presenter at a special session on “Advances in Geospatial Emergency Management” at the AAG (Association of American Geographers) Annual Meeting in Chicago, USA. The talks in this special session included:
- “Engaging communities in disaster risk reduction through volunteered geographic information: A case study of bushfires in Tasmania, Australia” presented by Billy Haworth from the University of Sydney, Australia.
- “Integrating social media in the development of a special event population dynamics model” presented by Kelly Sims, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA.
- “RISER: Resilient information systems for emergency response” presented by Matt from the RISER team (below).
The session was well-attended and generated some lively discussion. It also marked the official launch of the call for papers for the forthcoming special issue in the journal Computers, Environment, and Urban Systems on Advances in Geospatial Emergency Management, co-edited by Matt and Allison.
